The ball gown style of wedding dress is the romantic princess style, the dress you remember Cinderella wearing. The skirt has lots of volume and is generally worn with a petticoat. It often has a fitted top or bustier and features a small natural or drop waist. The ball gown can range from simple to heavily detailed. Different fabrics will alter how the dress appears with silks giving a light weightless feel and satins looking more substantial. Ball gown styles will suit anyone of average or above average height and will suit those with curves. Someone with a petite figure may be a little overwhelmed by this wedding dress style. |
The sheath wedding dress is great for showing off your curves. It has a body hugging profile and is often cut on the bias to make the most of your shape. The sheath wedding dress will often look less interesting on the hanger but will really come to life when it is tried on. It has a softer feel and is reminiscent of the elegant 50’s Hollywood era. This shape is fantastic on a petite bride but can work equally well on anyone with good proportions. A sheath dress with a drop waist will work really well on anyone with slim hips. |

A fishtail wedding dress will have a fitted bodice continuing down to hug the hips and will flair from the knee or just below. A fishtail also known as a mermaid dress will flatter anyone who is well proportioned and works well on tall or petite figures. It is ideal for those with an hourglass shape or anyone wishing to make the most of their curves. |
An A-line wedding dress is incredibly versatile and as the name suggests is in the shape of the letter A with the top of the skirt being narrow and the bottom proportionately wide. The A-line can start higher or lower than the natural waist and will alter the silhouette depending on where the waist line is. An empire or natural waist A-line or princess wedding dress will flatter almost any figure and is especially good for pear shapes. |
